Acts of violence are increasingly being brought into our homes through all forms of media. In recent
years, some of those violent acts have happened on Australian soil, which can be frightening and shocking for all of us. While many adults and children are disturbed when these events happen, adults tend to be able to rationalise these events and put them into perspective more easily than children can.
Emerging Minds has a resource to support parents, caregivers and those who support young people to talk to children about violent events.

For over 20 years, Emerging Minds has been dedicated to advancing the mental health and emotional wellbeing of Australian infants, children, adolescents and their families. The organisation now leads the National Workforce Centre for Child Mental Health, delivered in partnership with the Australian Institute of Family Studies (AIFS), the Parenting Research Centre (PRC) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
Emerging Minds develops mental health policy, interventions, in-person and online training, programs and resources in response to the needs of professionals, children and their families. They partner with family members, national and international organisations to implement evidence-based practice into the Australian context. Their resources are freely available at this web hub.
