SUMMARY:Self Seen Margaret River to Host Community BBQ Promoting Connection\, Conversation and Mental Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Peter Durey\, Mark Bailey and Ryan Nilsson-Linne\n\n\n\n\n\nSelf Seen Margaret River\, a local men’s mental health and connection group\, will host a community BBQ on Sunday February 22 at 10am\, inviting families\, women\, and men of all ages to come along\, meet the group\, and learn more about what Self Seen is all about. \n\n\n\nFounded by local men\, Self Seen Margaret River exists to create a relaxed\, welcoming space where men can meet\, walk\, talk\, and support one another—without judgement\, pressure\, or professional labels. Every Sunday morning we meet at 7am for a free BBQ brekky\, walk\, chat\, and coffee at Rotary Park. \n\n\n\n“We’re just average blokes\,” says Ryan Nilsson-Linne. “We’re not therapists—just men that have been through a bit and know how important it is to have other men around you who you can be honest with.” \n\n\n\nThe group’s motto\, ‘No One Walks Alone’\, reflects far more than their regular walks. It speaks to the importance of men supporting one another in everyday life—starting the week with connection\, movement\, and conversation to build resilience and a positive foundation for the days ahead. \n\n\n\n“It’s the courage to turn off for ourselves and each other that keeps us growing\,” says Mark Bailey. “Honesty and vulnerability is our true strength.” \n\n\n\nWhile many men already have connections through sport\, work\, or social circles\, Self Seen offers something different. \n\n\n\n“This is a more relaxed and intimate environment\,” Ryan explains. “A space where a conversation about mental health is treated the same as a chat about the cricket. You can be yourself\, meet people from different walks of life\, and feel comfortable opening up—or just listening.” \n\n\n\nSelf Seen Margaret River is supported by Mind-Ed Margaret River\, giving the group access to helpful resources while remaining community-led and peer-driven. \n\n\n\nThe group places no age restrictions on who can attend. While many participants are working men or recently retired\, Self Seen also welcomes dads\, single fathers\, and men who are FIFO or have moved to the region for work and are looking to build new connections. Children are welcome to attend with parents\, recognizing that many dads find it difficult to find time due to family commitments. \n\n\n\nFor men who feel hesitant or anxious about attending something new\, the message is simple: there is no pressure. \n\n\n\n“You can come for a feed and keep to yourself\, walk at your own pace\, or just sit and listen. If you want to talk\, someone will be there. If you don’t\, that’s fine too. No judgement. No competition.” \n\n\n\nThe community BBQ on February 22 is designed as an open invitation for the wider Margaret River community to see firsthand what Self Seen stands for—connection\, support\, and showing up for yourself and others. \n\n\n\nLocation: Rotary Park Margaret River
