This specialised workshop is designed specifically for administrative\, reception\, coordination and management staff working across: \n\n\n\n\nGeneral Practices\n\n\n\nAboriginal Health Services\n\n\n\nPublic Primary Health Clinics\n\n\n\nEmergency Departments\n\n\n\nUrgent Care Clinics\n\n\n\nCommunity & Public Mental Health Services\n\n\n\n\nWith more than 20 years of experience supporting Australian communities\, Wesley LifeForce delivers evidence-based training developed in consultation with GPs\, practice nurses and practice managers. DESCRIPTION:The next ASK workshop is taking place on the 21 – 22 May \n\n\n\n\n\nChildren experience the world differently from adults—and that includes how they show distress or think about suicide. \n\n\n\nApproaches designed for adults don’t always work for young children\, which is why the ASK Workshop: Assessing Suicide in Kids is so important.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis online workshop is for professionals working with children and young people aged 5-14 years old. The ASK Workshop is completed across two days plus reading completed prior to the live workshop. \n\n\n\nThe ASK Workshop challenges commonly held notions about children’s capacity to consider suicide. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 2022\, suicide was the second leading cause of child death in Australian children aged 5 -17 years. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants learn \n\n\n\n\nHow to talk about death with children\n\n\n\nHow to talk about suicide with children\n\n\n\nDevelopmentally appropriate strategies and tools to identify young children at risk of suicide \n\n\n\nHow to quickly gather and organise details needed to assess risk\n\n\n\nHow to explore and consider protective factors to inform safety planning\n\n\n\nTo consider common challenges when working with parents and possible solutions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImportant Course Information \n\n\n\nPre-Workshop reading is required to be completed prior to the workshop to be permitted access to the live stream. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-reading is via online modules\, no later than the 19th April to access the course that starts 28th April at 8:30 am.Your live stream link and pre-reading will be emailed to you in the days prior to the training.The live stream will go from 8:30am to 1:30pm Tuesday 28th April  and 8:30am to 1:30pm Wednesday 29 April 2026. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Structure \n\n\n\nParticipants learn using case studies\, guided simulations\, discussion and practice using an assessment tool. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the course \n\n\n\nParticipants will have an increased understanding and alertness to the fact that children can be at risk of suicide. They will know what risk factors to look out for and feel confident approaching the subject of death and suicide with a child.
