SUMMARY:Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training
DESCRIPTION:Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention is a two-day workshop designed for professionals and para-professionals in the human services whose roles bring them into regular contact with people at risk of suicide.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop aims to help participants: Gain an understanding of the problem of suicide  Identify suicide risk Provide a framework for risk assessment and intervention Develop appropriate intervention skills Understand the limits to confidentiality and importance of consultation Gain an understanding of self-harming behaviour Gain an understanding of the link between mental disorders and suicidal behaviours Understand the importance of postvention  \n\n\n\nWe acknowledge that attending a workshop that discusses suicide may bring up difficult and distressing emotions for people\, especially for those who have been personally or professionally impacted by suicide. Therefore\, we ask that you consider whether this is an appropriate time for you to attend a session before registering. If you are uncertain or wish to discuss further you are encouraged to contact the Department of Education Gatekeeper Coordinator at gatekeepersuicideprevention@education.wa.edu.au or Suicide Prevention Coordinators on suicideprevention.southwest@sjog.org.au  \n\n\n\nATTENTION Department of Education – please note that you will also need to register your attendance at this workshop via PLIS for it to be recorded as professional development. DESCRIPTION:Advocacy WA is a community-based\, not-for-profit organisation that supports people with disability to understand their rights\, speak up\, and have a voice in decisions that affect their lives. \n\n\n\nThey cover the entire South West\, and work alongside individuals\, families\, and communities to promote inclusion\, accessibility\, and equality. Our team provides independent advocacy\, delivers training and workshops across the region\, and leads innovative projects that build confidence\, connection\, and leadership among people with disability. At their core\, they believe that everyone deserves to be heard\, respected\, and supported to live life their way. \n\n\n\nThe Roadshow focuses on inclusion\, rights\, and self-advocacy for people with disability\, and they know that the rate of people experiencing mental health conditions alongside disability is high. This overlap is only exacerbated in regional and remote communities\, especially as more services withdraw from country areas. \n\n\n\nWhat’s On the Day\n\n\n\nGet ready for a full day of connection\, learning\, and fun! \n\n\n\nHere’s what you can expect at the Advocacy WA Roadshow: \n\n\n\nWelcome – Start the day with friendly faces\, light activities\, and an Acknowledgement of Country as we set the tone for inclusion and respect. \n\n\n\nQuality & Safeguards Session – Learn what good\, safe\, and respectful support looks like under the NDIS. Learn how to speak up\, make decisions\, and express your needs clearly and respectfully. \n\n\n\nAll Access Showcase – Discover what makes an event or venue inclusive\, and try our Empathy Suit and Vision Goggles to experience accessibility firsthand. \n\n\n\nKnowing Your Rights – Understand your rights under the NDIS\, including dignity\, choice\, and control — and how to act if something doesn’t feel right. \n\n\n\nD-Connect Local Meet-Up – Join a friendly community chat about inclusion in your area.
