Take part in the first-ever National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Census.

The National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Census is now open.

We invite all Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lived Experience (Peer) workers and volunteers to take part. Your insights will help build a clearer national picture of this workforce and highlight what people need in their roles. The findings will support better planning, stronger recognition, and improved support for Lived Experience (Peer) work across Australia.

This Census has been developed with extensive input from the national lived experience workforce, specialist organisations, First Nations and community-led groups, peak bodies, and government partners, to ensure the questions reflect the realities of peer work.

The Census is being led by the Social Research Centre and The Australian Centre for Social Innovation on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing.

The Census will take about 15 minutes to complete and will be open until 18 April 2026.

Please allow enough time to complete the Census in one sitting as responses will only save once submitted. If you need to step away, please keep your browser open and this will allow you to return to your responses.

Why your participation matters

The more people who take part, the stronger and more representative the findings will be. Census responses will help understand who makes up the workforce, where people work and what they do, what helps or gets in the way of doing the role well, and what support, recognition and conditions are needed.

Privacy and confidentiality

Taking part is voluntary and takes around 15 minutes. All responses are confidential. No individual or organisation will be identified, and information will not be shared with your employer.

The Social Research Centre will store your data securely in accordance with state and federal privacy legislation, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).
