Oseca staff, providing support services in the South West

For this spotlight feature, Mind-Ed asked Oseca about its work, its impact, and what the future holds.

From GP down south to Oseca, can you tell us about this change?
For more than 30 years, our organisation has supported families across the South West. On 1 January 2025, we launched a new name—Oseca—marking an exciting new chapter.
Why the change? It reflects our growth, our vision, and our commitment to delivering innovative solutions and exceptional care for our communities.
Oseca is a modern, versatile name inspired by Aceso, the Greek goddess of wellbeing and healing. It also carries a simple message: “I’m listening.” This identity gives us the freedom to grow and diversify without limits—while staying true to what matters most: helping people thrive.
From Oseca’s perspective, what are the biggest mental health and wellbeing challenges in our community?
For many people in our community, stigma around mental illness and seeking help has been a long-standing challenge. This stigma often prevents individuals from reaching out when they need support most. But stigma isn’t the only barrier—access to reliable local services is another major issue. Funding for programmes and the availability of mental health professionals can change frequently, making it hard for people to find consistent care.
That’s where organisations like Oseca and Mind Ed play a vital role. They help community members stay informed about mental health resources and make it easier to connect with support.
Oseca is committed to providing services across the South West, with clinicians based in Bunbury, Busselton and Manjimup, and outreach services to Harvey, Collie and Margaret River. These efforts ensure that even smaller communities have access to professional care when they need it.
Can you share a story that shows the difference Oseca has made for someone?
One parent came to Oseca looking for help to manage anxiety and stress, especially around parenting their teenage child. They began regular sessions with one of Oseca’s Mental Health Clinicians, who supported them with practical parenting techniques and ways to improve communication.
Through these conversations, the clinician discovered that the parent’s anxiety was linked to frightening experiences from their own teenage years. Together, they worked through these memories using processing techniques and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This helped the parent reframe those experiences and reduce feelings of anxiety.
By the end of the sessions, the parent said they felt calmer and more confident, even during tough moments. They also noticed their relationship with their teenager was improving.
Tell us about Oseca’s vision for the Future
Our vision is simple: thriving communities where everyone has the chance to live their healthiest, happiest life.
Over the next 5–10 years, Oseca plans to reach more communities across Western Australia. We’ll bring health and wellbeing services closer to where people live, making sure they’re tailored to local needs.
We’ll work alongside people with lived experience, local services, and communities—sharing knowledge through training and mentoring. And we’ll keep breaking down barriers so vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals can access the support they need.
Through proven programs that build resilience, self-management, and stronger connections, we’ll help individuals and families make real, lasting changes in their everyday lives.
