The ASK Workshop: Assessing Suicide in Kids | Online

Ask

13 March @ 8:30 am 1:30 pm

Children experience the world differently from adults—and that includes how they show distress or think about suicide.

Approaches designed for adults don’t always work for young children, which is why the ASK Workshop: Assessing Suicide in Kids is so important.

This online workshop is for professionals working with children and young people aged 5-14 years old. The ASK Workshop is completed across two days plus reading completed prior to the live workshop.

The ASK Workshop challenges commonly held notions about children’s capacity to consider suicide.

In 2022, suicide was the second leading cause of child death in Australian children aged 5 -17 years.

Participants learn

  • How to talk about death with children
  • How to talk about suicide with children
  • Developmentally appropriate strategies and tools to identify young children at risk of suicide
  • How to quickly gather and organise details needed to assess risk
  • How to explore and consider protective factors to inform safety planning
  • To consider common challenges when working with parents and possible solutions
